As the golden hour approached, I made some chicken noodle soup for dinner. Somehow I managed to forget all utensils. Oops. I was pretty distracted when I was throwing everything together, and I guess even routine didn't save us this time! The kids didn't care.
They played some more while I packed up, and then we all changed into dry clothes before sunset. The sky was really striking.
As soon as dusk hit, the night creatures came out. A whole possum family trotted out to the bank when we were stalking a heron and a hawk. The kids spooked the hawk, but the heron was less daunted.
I got to come back later and sneak a little closer.
Get out and sneak up on a heron.
