By the time we finished our hike, the window for checking into our campsite had rolled around. To mix things up, I had reserved a screened in shelter. This was our first time in one. My daughter thought it was fancy. Honestly, prior to this I thought they were a bit silly. But, I am now convinced they they are a great warm-weather option.
The screened in shelter area was in a clearing next to the lake. After getting camp set up, we explored on foot, by bike, and ...by inner tube. To explain, I gave my daughter a promised kayak paddling tutorial in an inner tube with her sitting in my lap. Weird, but it totally worked. When we later went on our first kayaking adventure she was a pro.
Both of us needed a bit of chill time, so we wrapped up our daylight hours by spending some time hanging out by the lake.
That evening, a cold weather system rolled in. The dramatic change in weather made for a magnificently creepy sunset.
We spent a blustery night in our screened in shelter. I cannot recommend a screened in shelter for cold, stormy camping. The heat very efficiently escaped, although it did stay dry.
