Myakka River State Park - page 2

The Walkway is suspended between two towers. One of the towers extends an extra few flights, reaching 75 feet. If it was just another flight higher, it would have rivaled the highest point in Southern Florida (clocking in at 86 ft—Hope “Mountain”)! From the top of the tower, we had a birds-eye view of the lovely, but very flat landscape.

We threw the kids into the back of the truck and headed on up the road to the park’s store and concession stand for a snack. It turned out to be a great place to see some birds. The store had windows overlooking an inlet waterway so that even the kids could check out the herons without scaring them away.

It wasn't all blue, green and brown: check out this pretty lichen!

After a snack, we continued on to the Upper Myakka Lake’s boardwalk. Originally built by the CCC, the boardwalk heads out into the marsh floodplain adjacent to the lake.
